Like many youth organisations, the Road Town Girls’ Brigade used the recent pandemic experience to “Level up” technologically in order to keep functioning. During this time, the various skills and resources in using technology in ministry in our digital world (or lack thereof) became evident. A vision appeared: what if girls and young women and their leaders (and now their advisors, volunteers and friends) focused on keeping the tried and true, aged-old Road Town Girls’ Brigade activities, but challenged themselves to do this on (Thursdays only) in a completely digital medium (sort of like the cooking, baking, praying, singing, bible presentations/study, virtual parties, watch party-movies, etc that we did on the fly during the pandemic experience).
Soon enough after, the vision began to emerge in reality and the Road Town Girls’ Brigade launched its 100% members built and managed website and converted, for now, to 100% online, 100% safe, 100% convenient and on-demand Company meetings on Thursdays. Non-Thursday activities, however, can be done face-to-face or in the members’ chosen style. I mean, going to the beach online? Maybe not. But never say never, if one of our members want to try their hand technologically at a virtual reality app or device featuring Cane Garden Bay!
So join RTGB in its digital revolution story, writing it week by week from any island in the Territory of the Virgin Island, New York, Nevis or anywhere (subject to careful vetting) and at whatever age. We promise your that in a meeting members, leaders, advisors and friends will be colouring online with the Explorers and their parents or guardians, leading crafts online with the Juniors, hosting Zoom meetings, rocking around the house as a member (or friend) leads online Company Devotions while presenting her/his favourite videos in song, and prayers! Watch yourself or your 5-year-old granddaughter/grand-son move in and out of breakout rooms (for appropriate group content and then back for presenting the power point he or she prepared and receive Techy badges at Badge Parade for learning techy things such as following, signing up a form online, etc. At RTGB members learn how to play and compete in new and traditional online games with the group, WhatsApp, copy and pasting pictures from the net to their innovate vision board, host debates on the issues, up their advocacy skill by creating RTGB Blogs, create any-type of website publication on the RTGB website (once approved), upload their beats, art, an article or Tik Tok, host a virtual bakeoff and eventually get comfortable doing all their personal online needs, submissions, research for school projects, banking or communicating safely with the transferable skills learnt at RTGB.
Yes, we promise that RTGB members (and their friends), leaders, volunteers and advisors will become experts growing in physical, spiritual, educational and service activities only as boss online experts. Come on, take the RTGB Techy Challenge: one hour, once a week, and we bet we will make you smile. In fact, plan to take your study break on us, cause Thursdays and the RTGB never felt this new, this fun, this good.
